My wife and I cherish traveling to visit our
family - especially the nieces. The routine is fairly consistent:
putzing downtown, lunch at our favorite place, provisioning for dinner,
cooking at home, vino. Somewhere along the way, bathtime arrives.
The girls protest initially as they know it signifies the coming of bedtime,
but they revel the experience itself. Here they find a perfect moment
of play in a world free of the otherwise unvarying governance of adults.
Here, they be queens!
Technical Details: 1/30 sec at f/4.8 - 12-24mm lens
at 24mm - pixelroom conversion to B&W - JPEG ISO 200
My preferred medium for people is black and white, however I almost always
shoot in color and convert later. This allows more much more post
capture control of contrast as you can fine tune each color's conversion in
great detail, far surpassing the use of B&W filters in the days of old.
My one exception - in very low light I shoot directly to B&W in camera which
produces less noise in the final image. I suspect this has to do with
how the in-camera electronics process the RGB data as it comes off the
sensor. In this case, the color conversion was done in Lightroom - my
favorite photographic tool other than my camera ;)
